Team Members Nominated for Roofing Industry Awards

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award program celebrates workers who are outstanding employees within their companies and recognizes them for their outstanding performance outside the workplace - their charitable deeds, community involvement, challenges they’ve overcome, dedication and commitment to helping others.

RoofingSource nominated three employees for these awards: Ben Hernandez, Israel Abad, and Tyler Shartle. These team members exemplify the RoofingSource values of being solutions-focused, growth-oriented, and a selfless teammate.

Ben Hernandez was nominated for outstanding performance/other noteworthy contributions outside the workplace.

While Ben is soft spoken, he powerfully leads by his actions.  His level of dedication and commitment to the communities he leads is incredible. Since serving active duty in the US Army, he has taken the teaching and leadership skills from his time in the military and utilizes his ability to lead and improve his current community involvements. He volunteers for the Troy Fire Department and is President of His Brother’s Keepers Motorcycle Club chapter. He constantly is on the pulse of how to best provide for people within his communities. For example, last year, he organized a fundraiser for the family of a motorcycle club member who passed away from brain cancer, and he continuously supports the Texas Burn Survivors Society at Camp David.

Speaking on behalf of our team, we are very proud to have someone with his grit and devotion to greater good of the teams he is apart of. His attitude of consistently supporting his teammates at work and within his communities while asking for nothing in return serves as an ideal “off the roof” role model.

Israel Abad was nominated for outstanding on-the-job performance/workmanship.

To sum it up, Israel is defined by his nickname “Extra”. He is called this nickname both at home and at work because he goes above and beyond in everything he does. Israel takes tremendous pride in his craft and his work. From executing a large reroof project to cooking tacos and all the fixings for the headquarters team, he is always “extra.”

While Israel is bilingual, his ability to unite people from various backgrounds reaches beyond just language. His charisma and energetic demeanor are always displayed whenever he approaches any challenges he motives everyone around him to make certain that everyone envisions and achieves a better version of themselves. Israel is always eager to learn and generously shares his knowledge with the people around him. He excels at mentoring and developing talent through patience and discipline.   

Tyler Shartle was nominated for outstanding on-the-job performance/workmanship.

To put it simply, this guy is a machine. In over 6,200 man hours, he boasts 98% first time fix rate.  He sets the gold standard, or as we often refer to it as the “Tyler standard”. When it comes to quantitatively speaking for technical performance, he far exceeds his peers, but he contributes more to our organization than being the “pacesetter”.

He is constantly seeking creative solutions to help customers and improve his fellow Field Advisors’ job. He constantly makes actionable suggestions for technology improvements to streamline the workflow, save time on reporting, and provide the customer the most amount of information.

Since he is relatively new to commercial roofing, he understands the importance of communicating the customer on the issue and solution. Although he works at extreme speeds, he is patient when educating clients and new employees on the intricacies and best practices of roofing.

Even if he approaches a challenge where a solution may take more work, he makes sure to do the right thing the first time. He does not take shortcuts.  When we send Tyler to meet with a first time customer, I am confident and assured that he will provide the client the possible representation not just of our brand, but of the roofing profession.
