Ben Hernandez is a US Army veteran and a RoofingSource Field Advisor based in Troy, Texas. He served for 7 years Regular Army and 4 year Reserves as an Artillery soldier during the Gulf War. After his Honorable Discharge from active duty, he began instructing how to use Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles to Marines, Army Soldiers and NATO forces around the world in support of forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. Ben joined RoofingSource in March of 2016 as a Field Advisor managing the large Texas region. Due to his leadership and training experience in the military and in his contracting work, he evolved into a Regional Trainer educating and training new RoofingSource employees.  In addition to helping RoofingSource customers day in and day out, Ben is proud to serve his community as a Troy volunteer firefighter and support his local community. As president of the local chapter of Brothers Keepers Motorcycle Club (BKMC), he leads his team by supporting the Texas Burn Survivors Society at Camp David and the local Communities in Schools (CIS) that helps mentor children and organizes fundraising activities all year round.

Phil Smedley is a US Marine veteran and a RoofingSource Field Advisor based in Polk City, Florida.  From the early age of 5, he knew that he wanted to serve in the Marine Corps. Phil joined the Marine Corps at 17 and became a Motor Transportation Marine. Phil worked to obtain the roles as a Small Weapons Instructor, Hand to Hand Combat Instructor, and Machine Gun Instructor.  One of his most rewarding teaching experiences was being afforded the opportunity to train new recruits at Parris Island on the Rifle Range. Phil has excelled within the RoofingSource organization as a natural born leader and mentor supporting his teammates in the southeastern region. When Phil is not problem-solving and supporting RoofingSource clients, he enjoys playing video games with his sons, hunting, recreational shooting and spending time with his family.

Louie Aversano serves as a reservist in the Coast Guard and was on active duty for 11 years. He currently is a south Florida based Field Advisor. During his childhood, Louie spent his free time fishing and watching the Coast Guard officers working on their boats along the Florida beaches. He quickly became fascinated and inspired by watching these men and women serve, so Louie decided to enlist when he became of age. Louie served as a Pursuit Coxswain and a Boarding Officer. As a Pursuit Coxswain, Louie performed many search and rescue missions, but also trained heavily in pursuit tactics to intercept illegal drugs and immigrants from entering the United States. As a Boarding Officer, he had the authority to perform search and seizures in international waters. Today, Louie participates in Wounded Warrior projects where he partners up with fellow veterans on fishing charters. Louie also is heavily involved in charity fishing tournaments in his community.

Brent Andrews is a Navy veteran and Boston based Field Advisor. His service began during the Gulf War, a time that necessitated heightened military activity and American troop support. Brent enlisted into a 2-year program, where the majority of his service was spent in the sea on military vessels. During the war, Brent was a Boatswain Mate, serving and supplying aircrafts with ammunitions. In this capacity, Brent was responsible for ship maintenance and keeping the ships’ equipment up to standards. After spending an extended period of time in the Arabian sea near the gulf, Brent traveled to many places, most notably, Japan, Africa, Guam, and Hawaii. Upon the conclusion of Brent’s active duty service, he served 6 years in inactive duty. Much of his responsibilities during inactive were similar, serving deck hands and responsible for maintaining all the Liberty boats and captains’ gigs. To this day, Brent keeps in contact with other veterans that he met during his time in the Navy.

Mike West is an Army veteran and Indiana based Field Advisor. He began his military service in the National Guard, and in 1998, he went into active duty with the Army. Mike comes from a long line of retired veterans, and he felt a calling to the military, particularly from his father, whom he idolized throughout his childhood.  During his time in active duty, Mike was stationed at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. His military assignments varied, from serving in the Military Police Corps (designated 85-bravo), to serving as a bodyguard to the Chaplin (56M). Today, Mike is an active member of the VFW, and continues to serve veterans by donating his time at various community events.
